Swedish Massage is one of the most popular type of massage therapy. It was first created in 1812 in the University of Stockholm and it has enjoyed a wide popularity and high success rates since then.
Swedish massage is usually the first and the most common choice when it comes to choosing a massage therapy type. A typical Swedish massage usually consists of five types of moves as listed below :
Effleurage – making long and gliding strokes along the body, the rubbing and pushing of the muscles help reduce tension and stress levels which provide a very relaxing effect.
Petrissage – Simply put, this technique looks like you are kneading dough; it works on your muscle tension and helps you to de-stress.
Tapotement – This is the gentle pounding of the body, which helps improve blood circulation and release tense muscle knots.
Vibration – This is the rhythmic, rapid shaking of the body and is great for the neck and shoulders. It provides eases tension and provides a very relaxing sensation that can even help to solve sleep disorders.
Friction – This works best on your muscle fibres and is carried out using circular or perpendicular motions.
An efficient and traditional Swedish massage will help to improve blood circulation, easing muscular aches and tension, improving flexibility and helps provide absolute rejuvenation. The massage is performed using aromatherapy oils or unscented oils if preferred which helps to stimulate the senses. It helps to reduce both physiological and emotional stress.
Four hand Swedish massage is a type of massage therapy that requires two masseurs working simultaneously, creating a choreographed massage. There are a number of different styles to choose from, which we can explain in detail so you may select the style that works best for you.
The classic four hand massage form involves two masseurs who mirror each other, with one taking the lead and the other follows. Our masseurs use Swedish style massage techniques, combining long, slow strokes with other techniques that are designed to relax the body. You can request special attention for one area of the body, such as the back or legs, and our masseurs can tailor the session according to your needs.
In some other cases, each masseuse may focus on a specific area of the body, with one working on the upper body and one working on the lower. Four hand massages can also combine massage techniques, with one masseuse doing reflexology whilst the other gives a Swedish style massage.
